Welcome to the Oystercatcher B&B and Ardview
Selfcatering Apartment at Port Ellen - Islay
** New service from the Oystercatcher ** Visiting our distilleries in search of a taste of Islay hospitality? How to get there? Transport with driver can be arranged upon request. Prices on application. Early booking advisable. Contact us for more information.
Your visit really begins when you board the Calmac ferry at Kennacraig. After a scenic and relaxing two hour sailing you reach the beautiful Isle of Islay. If you arrive in Port Ellen we are just a few minutes walk away or into Port Askaig a thirty minute bus or car trip brings you to The Oystercatcher. Maybe you will decide to fly into the small airport just five miles away, we will be happy to meet you.
However you come you will receive a warm welcome and soon settle down to that unique thing we call " Islay time". Port Ellen is a pretty village with three sandy beaches. Our house is situated on Lodamus Bay a few steps from a particularly safe beach. Within a few minutes walk you can be in the local pub sampling local produce, find the Post Office, Indian Restaurant, Hotel, and a couple of shops. The harbour is used by local fishing boats and many visiting yachts and even has it's own pet seal who begs fish from the fishermen.

And we have very famous neighbours; Laphroaig (1km), Lagavulin (2km) and Ardbeg (4km) distilleries. An easy walk, quick bike ride (on one of our own new bicycles), a bus or car ride along a beautiful coastal road bring you to the home of these famous Islay Whiskies, waiting for you to taste their delights. A little further down the road is the famous Kildalton Cross and the picturesque Claggain Bay.
We make every effort to make your stay enjoyable and are happy to book distillery tours, resturants and even car hire. Bikes are available to rent locally.
